Play time

I got a package in the mail last night. The signature blocks from The Lady of Steeles Hand Embroidery group swap :) We originally started out with about 26 of us but the numbers eventually decreased to 19. Now I just have to decide what kind of quilt I want to make my blocks into. The photo shows the blocks laid out as they came out the package. Now I get to "play"with the arrangement for a while.
This block belongs to Barbara our "long suffering" swap hostess. She dedicated almost 8 months to keeping us on track, moving along and on occasion getting very strict in her own special way :)
To everyone that participated, Barbara, Deb, Cat, Marion, Donna, Wanda, Gloria, Arlene, Alva, Dixie, Denise, Latha, Shasta, Patti, Janice, Candji, Linda and Kathryn  a big THANK YOU. I love the blocks and am looking forward to seeing all the finished results.

Textile Corner - Lof SHE secret sister swap

Now I can show you the gift I received in the secret sister swap. It came all the way from Baghdad. Arwa is a very talented embroiderer. It's hanging in my sewing room.
My gift went to Lata in Saudi Arabia. She wants to learn ribbon embroidery so I sent her some things to make that possible.

Lunchtime tutorial - applique heart - supply list

Fabric for block
Fabric for heart
Lightweight fusible interfacing
Rotary mat and cutter
61/2" quilt block template
5" heart template
scissors (yes they are Fiskars kids AND they are VERY sharp), embroidery scissors would also work well.
pencil and/or pen for marking lines
needle and thread (to match the heart fabric)
sewing machine and point turner.

Why am I doing this mini tutorial. Because Barbara at the Lady of Steeles Hand Embroidery Group asked me how to do it and I'm also making an Easter quiltie so I'm "killing two birds with one stone" so to speak :) AND all the spring cleaning I'm doing is starting to bring on my allergies (now you know why I have dust bunnies.) AND I needed a break from revising beginner Spanish. Excuses, excuses I just wanted to sew something !!!!!
