Bloggers Quilt Festival - Fall 2010

No it's not a doll quilt but it verily well could be and my daughter would love to have it for her twins. The hubster chuckled as I wandered round our un-photogenic house with quilt and baby dolls clutched to my heart looking for a place to take photos :)
It's not the quilt I was planning on sharing today but my other one is not finished yet and won't be for a while. I'm embroidering some blocks.
This is one of the few quilts that I have finished this year and it is for The Gracie Jane Project (button in sidebar). Ironically I found out about this new project last year while reading one of the Blogger Quilt Festival entries.

I love the design. It's very simple to put together if you pay proper attention to the instructions :) I forgot to attach the border on my first attempt and did not notice till the whole thing was quilted and ready for it's binding!!!!! Attempt #2 goes out in the mail this week-end and I hope it warms a preemie baby well.
There's already a whooooole lot of people participating in the festival and as usual I plan on visiting everyone over the next few days (better make that weeks since there are so many entries.) Thanks to Amy http://amyscreativeside.com/ for giving us this fun opportunity to interact with each other. Love the mini photos for the entries :)

Project Update - Aaaaargh

Aaaaaaargh #1 - I thought I had finished my Gracie Jane quilt but was looking at it and thinking "something did not look right." I was reading an e-mail from Micki with some questions about the border and binding and realized ........... I forgot to attach the border !!!!!!!! How dumb do I feel. So the top for version #2 is now done. Much better. I added in another color/pattern and will have to do a different back. The other quilt will get used for something else.

Aaaaaaargh #2 - I was putting together a tutorial based on the 10" blocks experiment and even in the sunroom the shots did not work. The day was too damp and cloudy and I was not about to go outside and take photographs of every step. So I'll keep the photos to remind me how I put my different blocks together and do another set on a nicer day.

Project update - Gracie Jane quilt

I'm almost done sewing the top together. Just one more row to cut out and attach. The photograph shows part of it.

Update - Now it just needs the binding :)

Another update - Barbara is doing a fat quarter giveaway at her blog. To enter for the drawing you have to commit to donating fabric or make a quilt. http://thegraciejaneproject.blogspot.com/

I've opted for a white binding and added more straight line machine quilting. I'm seeing some sub patterns in the design so may try something AFTER I've finished up some of my "in-line waiting" wallhangings

Blog of the Week - The Gracie Jane Project

The Gracie Jane Project is back up and running again with a new look and a new pattern. The link is in my sidebar.
Head on over there and read the Gracie Jane baby story. If you want to send fabric or a finished quilt contact Barbara for information. I sent fabric last year and committed to making at least one quilt top for this year.

The Gracie Jane Project

An interesting idea that is in it's infancy, so to speak, but one I have decided to participate in. Mini quilts for preemies.
Our youngest daughter had an unexpected, very traumatic, almost deadly start to life and spent her first two weeks in the neo-natal wing. The babies in there were amazing and such fighters. I was in awe of them and of the nurses who worked so diligently and carefully with them. Some wonderful volunteers came in regularly to do their jobs as "huggers and strokers." Even with all the drama and challenges going on the neo-natal was serene.
For more information go to www.thegraciejaneproject.blogspot.com/ or click on the link on my side-bar.
To see some of the quilts go to www.williamgeorgecompany.blogspot.com/2009/10/my-entry-bloggers-quilt-festival.html
I am going to send fabric to begin with then after all my Christmas projects are completed I plan on making some of these little 20"x20" quilts.
Barbara, I for one, wish you incredible success with this project.
