Fall Quilt Swap

My fall wall hanging is somewhere between here and there, probably needing the use of dog sleds if the snow is still as bad as I heard about :) It's in waterproof packaging just as a precaution.
(Just checked and wouldn't you know it the weather is now lovely in her part of the planet.)
This is my variation of the disappearing nine-patch concept. I took my original piece, studied it, and created one that did not have quite so many seams. I used the fall patterned fabric for the back.
I have a collection of stencils and used some of them for the hand quilting designs.
I'm planning on finishing up the other fall wall hanging in a different way.

Fall Quilt Swap - received :)

I received a lovely package in the mail on Monday from Krista at http://poppyprintcreates.blogspot.com/ This is the first swap she has participated in and I felt totally spoiled by her generosity. Not only the gorgeous wall hanging but a Lindsay tartan scarf all the way from Scotland and a copy of "Return to Elm Creek". First three pictures are close ups of different parts of the quilt. The back is actually a much nicer and darker green than the picture indicates.

My own wall  hanging will be in the mail soon. There was a sudden change to my partner assignment so I am contemplating whether to send the one I have already made, do some personalizing alterations to it,  or make a brand new one.

Fall Quilt Swap

I've been sewing away on my wall hanging and got some of the hand stitching done yesterday. Here's a peek. I love to hand stitch and since I am "wimping" my way through life at the moment with a heavy head cold (courtesy of my hubbie) I decided to change my design from applique to straight hand stitching - 1 strand DMC #355. Between the fuzzy brain, stab stitches and pins I have a few body scratches to deal with :)

Project update - Fall Quilt Swap and Friendship signature blocks

Life is not all about Christmas projects. I'm working away on two swaps that are due in January.

The photo shows the start to my wall hanging for the Fall Quilt Swap. It's a variation on a disappearing nine-patch. I am planning on adding some applique.

The other big project is 24 blocks for a friendship swap. Most of that is done but I have to finish embroidering my name and state onto them which will take a wee bit of time.



Saturday - Debi asked for the start off pattern for my variation on the disappearing 9 patch.
Use two different fabrics one multi directional pattern and one plain. Cut 61/2" blocks 5 patterned and 4 plain.
Sew up as for a regular nine patch block.
ADD 21/2" borders with 21/2" cornerstone blocks.
Cut down middle of finished block in both directions.
Rotate the 4 new blocks into a design of your own choosing.
Since posting my start off picture I've done another arrangement that I like better.
