Fabric Postcard

This one is heading to Shirley P. in Canada. She is the newly retired leader of Learning FA an on-line fabric arts group I am with. Her husband recently had surgery and she had a bad fall. We all hope both of them recover well and soon :)

This is my "before" picture of the pieces cut out ready to do something with. Each piece is cut 4"x6" and depending on how I decide to embellish I either iron all the pieces together and do some surface design or iron the top three pieces together and do top design stitching and then iron the back on afterwards. Regardless of how I start I always do 2 to 3 rows of zig-zag- stitching round the outside to hold everything together.

The recipient for this Postcard Pizzazz swap lives locally. I might just drop it off at her house once I get past my dose of the "Tennessee crud" - cough... cough ... splutter .... splutter.

Postcard Pizzazz - Back in the swing of things

I'm finally back to making and swapping fabric postcards again. For the time being I am going to do 1to1 straight swaps.

Postcard Pizzazz - Autumn exchange

It's now later in the day. We were having our sun room and front porch inspected while I wrote the previous posts then I had to go out and about. After that Lucy and I needed to "veg out" for a while. Lots of home improvement programs on the T.V. to get ideas from :) Once our windows/sunroom/porch are taken care of by the professionals we are planning on redoing our bathrooms. (We might need help from a plumber.)
I love this card that came from Leah. It's beautifully machine embroidered and up there amongst the favorites I have received. I think autumn themed projects are such fun to do.
Lucy up-date. She is getting back to her bouncy self. The biopsy for her tumor came back as level 2 contained cancer and we are hoping there will not be any more recurrences at the main site. She goes back to the vet on Tuesday to get her staples removed and a scan of her heart done.

A surprise

This postcard was a surprise from Melva at Postcard Pizzazz. She made too many for her section of the "Scrap Happy" swap and drew two names. Love it.

Fabric postcard

This is for a PostcardPizzazz swap called "Scrap Happy". We had to use leftovers from other projects so I took some bits and pieces and cut them all to 11/2". After sewing all the strips together I fused them to the remains of a white block.
Now I need to finish up about 3 or 4 other postcard swaps and then call it quits for this year.

The purple sparkly one is from Janet and the brown autumnal one is from Angela. I'm liking the variegated thread edging a lot.

LearningFA - postcards for Carma

Woohoo, this one came up right ways so you don't have to do any acrobatics :)

The wonderful, gracious, leader of Learning FA got some devastating family news recently regarding her son. He has advanced cancer.

She has been involved with a home called Carma House, which is a support group for cancer survivors, for about the past year or so. A number of us are sending her fabric postcards to help raise money for them.

One of the other groups I am with LadyofSHE is about to start a project to raise money for a cancer victim. I'll tell you more about that when I get back from vacation. It will be Christmas ornament orientated.

I've gotten 3 from Claire so far and she has a definite theme going on. I'm enjoying all the cards I've been receiving. It's been interesting seeing how everyone interpretes the colors.

Totally different subject. Elisabeth is sewing away. She is using some of Juliet's left over prom fabric to make a skirt (New Look 6345). She received the summer dress a friend made for her. It was a bit big so she spent yesterday fixing that.

Stashbusters Spring Postcard Swap

These are the fabric postcards I sent out recently.

I was contemplating lily pads at the time and ended up with these !!!!!!

The group is getting ready for it's summer swap but I think I'll skip it and stick with the color wheel year long that is happening with Postcard Pizzazz. Which reminds me - I have two cards to make for that one. Tertiary, mmmmmm, what can I come up with for that.

Textile Corner - Postcard Pizzazz - Secondary Colors

Some of us are working our way through the color wheel for the rest of this year and this is the card I made for secondary colors. I titled it "Cats are Second to None" :)

I really enjoyed making the cards and Nik helped me assemble them.

Textile Corner - My favorite time of year

My favorite time of year is Easter. I get to celebrate the birth, life, atonement, death AND ressurection of our beloved Saviour, Jesus Christ.

I've signed up for a number of Easter/spring swaps and here are two in process. The postcards just have to have the back finished and the 6" quiltie is getting a hanger and an edge finish.

I enjoyed taking the same background fabric and doing different designs on top. What is the background - a batik with resist shapes that reminded me of eggs and colors that reminded my of gorgeous sunrises/sunsets.

There are a number of religious imageries within the pieces but you would have to know my life in detail to know what they are and what they represent :)
