Cross Stitch Corner - "Rose Splendor" update

This is how my project looks as of last night. Hopefully it will be finished by the end of this week and then I'll work on the rest of my snowpeople.

This is so sweet. I love cross stitch and hand embroidery projects. I'm curious about this piece. I see some basting stitches. Is it backed with something? Sorry if that's a dumb question. I'm always learning......

The basting stitch is called 'gridding" and on many designs is done in grids of 10 stitches. I just have mine running across the center in both directions.

The concept helps stitchers to keep track of their stitching/counting. It works really well when working on large or more complex designs with lots of color changes.
