This is so sweet. I love cross stitch and hand embroidery projects. I'm curious about this piece. I see some basting stitches. Is it backed with something? Sorry if that's a dumb question. The basting stitch is called 'gridding" and on many designs is done in grids of 10 stitches. I just have mine running across the center in both directions.
The concept helps stitchers to keep track of their stitching/counting. It works really well when working on large or more complex designs with lots of color changes.
